Audio typing test and dictation practice
In this audio typing test the text is hidden. Press Enter, listen to a short phrase and type it. When you start the last word, the next phrase plays on its own; Enter repeats the current one. At the end you see your speed, accuracy and the full text with every mistake marked.
Who it is for
- Transcription and data entry jobs. Many employers test how fast you type from audio. This is the same skill: listen, hold the phrase in memory, type without stopping.
- Language learners. Dictation trains listening and spelling at once. Pick Spanish, German, French or another language and type what you hear.
- Touch typists. With nothing to look at, you stop reading letter by letter and start typing whole words from memory.
How it works
The text is read by a voice built into your browser, so nothing is recorded or uploaded. Chrome, Edge and Safari have good voices for most languages; you can choose the voice and three speeds next to the test. You don't need to type capital letters or punctuation: only the words count.
Tips
- Start on slow speed and listen to the whole phrase before typing.
- Don't stop at a word you are unsure about: type your best guess and keep going, then check the marked text at the end.
- Repeat a phrase with Enter instead of guessing several words in a row.
To measure your normal speed, take the 1-minute typing test or practise for a data entry typing test.
