Typing games turn keyboard practice into something you want to come back to. Klava has three of them, and the first one is already running above: press space and type the falling words before they hit the ground. Everything is free, works in the browser and needs no account.
You don't need to press space or Enter: a word disappears as soon as its last letter is typed. Type the first letter of any word to lock onto it; Backspace releases the word if you picked the wrong one. Every word scores 10 points per letter multiplied by your level. After 8 words the level goes up and the words fall a little faster. Esc pauses the game, Tab starts again.
Easy mode uses short words and gives you more time, so it is a good start for kids. Normal is the everyday setting. Hard uses longer words, faster falling and less space between them: it is the mode for people who already type 60 words per minute or more.
The games use the same word lists as the trainer, so you can play in English, Spanish, German, French, Portuguese, Russian, Ukrainian, Polish, Turkish and 12 more languages. Change the language next to the game. The physical keys are matched to the chosen layout, so you can practise a new layout without switching it in your system.
Games keep you practising; lessons teach the right finger for each key. The fastest way to improve is both: a few touch typing lessons to learn the home row, then a game or two as a warm-up every day. To see real progress, take the 1-minute typing test once a week and compare with the average typing speed.
Teachers and bloggers can put the games on their own site with the free typing widget.
